22 Things You Can Do Anytime

We all have to take action every single day of the year in order to make girls’ lives better. Whatever you’re doing, no matter when, you are creating change that makes girls voices heard!

While you may be one person, your voice and actions can touch others, whose voices and actions can touch still others, and so forth until we experience change. 1. Girlcott! You can use your power as a consumer to force multi-national corporations to pay attention to you.

2. Make magazines pay for their dirty deeds. If you’re peeved about negative portrayals of girls in magazines, say so!

3. Preach it, teach it. Reach out to other girls to share your knowledge and talents in a way that benefits all of us.

4. Wear it on your sleeve. Make a statement about your personal passions.

5. Make movie magic. Spend a night sharing your favorite flicks with cool chicks.

6. There oughta be a law. At every stage, no matter the issue, contact your lawmakers to tell them what you want them to do!

7. Make a scene. Organize a girl billboard action.

8. Rule the school. Put yourself in a position of power.

9. Make sure the playing field is even. Let everyone know the score for gender equity at your school.

10. Read them the riot act. Get into the habit of sounding off by writing letters to the editors!

11. Have your people call their people. Get on the phone to get results.

12. Show up and speak up. Show up, sign up speak, say what’s on your mind.

13. Call your own meeting. Set your own agenda.

14. Make your own report cards. Challenge groups to up their marks by including more youth voices.

15. Be a link in the chain. Become part of a network of girls who are plugged in to the world and watching out for girls in it.

16. Flip the switch on sexist entertainment. Do something audacious: change the channel!

17. Take the high road. Make your case to everyone up the ladder until you get the outcome you desire.

18.  Turn the ladies room into the girls’ powerhouse. It’s a secret lair for launching ladies into activism!

19. Check yourself. Are you walking the walk to go along with the talk?

20. Give every day a girl twist. Make girls matter on every day of the year.

21. Share your story, drop the shame. Every time you stand up for yourself and other girls, the ability that others have to disparage us gets even smaller.

22. Make other girls matter. You have the power to change girls’ lives, just by being a positive figure.
